Subaru offers a choice between two separate powertrain options that both come with an improved continuously variable transmission that foregoes classic gear shifting for a smoother driving experience. The base powertrain brought in with the 2002 Legacy is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that pushes out 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque potential. If you are looking to add extra zip to this sedan, Subaru offers a 2.4-liter turbocharger BOXER 4-cylinder engine that pushes out an improved 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.
