Ready for Any Adventure

Direct-Injection Turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® Engine

The 2021 Outback features an available 260-horsepower
direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine that delivers 277 pound-feet of torque for exciting daily driving and 3,500 pounds of towing capacity while still reaching up to 30 MPG highway.

8.7 Inches of Ground Clearance and X-MODE®

With 8.7 inches of ground clearance and standard X-MODE, the Outback can take you almost anywhere. That includes places the competition just can't follow: Honda Passport, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Edge can't match the combination of standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance on the 2021 Outback.

State-of-the-Art Safety

All-Around Awareness Technology

The 2021 Outback features an entire suite of available safety technologies to help protect you and your passengers. The Blind-Spot Detection system warns you with a visual indicator on each side mirror if it senses a vehicle in your blind spots.

Subaru DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System

The 2021 Outback features a state-of-the-art system to help reduce distracted driving for both new and experienced drivers. Each day in the United States, more than 1,000 people are injured in crashes reported to have involved a distracted driver.

SUBARU STARLINK® Safety and Security

STARLINK Safety and Security offers an array of connected services to help keep you and your Outback safe whether you're in your vehicle, at your computer, or on your smartphone.

Crash Protection for Every Passenger

We designed the Outback from the ground up to help keep you and your passengers safe. In addition to its industry-leading active safety technology, the 2021 Outback features eight airbags, height-adjustable head restraints in every seating position, and a ring-shaped reinforcement frame as standard equipment to help provide all-around impact protection.

Spacious, Comfortable, and Convenient

Standard Raised Roof Rails with Enhanced Tie-Downs

Standard roof rails with integrated crossbars provide additional versatility for equipment like kayaks, bikes, skis, and cargo carriers, and can fold away when not in use. The enhanced tie-downs on the 2021 Outback give you even more flexibility and make it easier to rack and unrack your cargo.

SUBARU STARLINK® Multimedia with 11.6-inch Touchscreen

A STARLINK Multimedia system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration comes standard on the 2021 Outback. To make it even easier to select entertainment and view navigation, a high-resolution 11.6-inch touchscreen is also available.

What engines will I find?

The first place that we are starting with the 2021 Outback is checking to see what is underneath the hood. This is a natural palace to look first, especially when you are just learning about a vehicle. The base engine here is a 2.5-liter flat-4, which can produce around 176 pound-feet of torque and up to 182 horsepower. The other available engine is a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-4, which generates 277 pound-feet of torque and up to 260 horsepower. You will, of course, be getting all-wheel drive as standard, along with a continuously automatic transmission. As for fuel economy, the base engine gets surround 26 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg while on the highway. No matter where you go, the Outback is ready to be there for you.

What about the trim lineup?

After figuring out the kind of power that you can get from the available engines, you likely want to figure out what kind of features are available for you. The base trim with the Outback comes standard with automatic climate control, hill descent control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, roof rails, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver's seat, EyeSight safety suite, and full LED headlights. Another trim to consider, Premium, comes with heated front seats, rear-seat USB quick-charging ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 10-way power driver's seat. One of the higher trims, Touring, adds in a power sunroof, a navigation system, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and a DriverFocus driver-monitoring system.

What about safety?

Anyone who understands Subaru also knows that their vehicles come with the best safety technology around. The biggest thing with Subaru is the standard EyeSight system, which comes with sway warning, brake assist, throttle management, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, active lane centering, and lane-departure warning. You also get standard all-wheel drive, which helps in dangerous icy or wet situations. Nothing is more important to Subaru than your safety.
